Face to Face Training Workshops

The decision to deliver part or all of your courses or programme online through any virtual learning environment means getting comfortable and confident with the software. All of our workshops are pedagogically informed, aimed at using technology for educational purposes. All workshops are delivered by our highly skilled and experienced staff who are also active Moodle users. Some of our training options are listed below, but we also provide bespoke training upon request.

Online Learning Introduction
Beginning with a blank course, you will learn how to create basic resources, upload files (Word, Pdf, PowerPoint, webpages), create basic interactive learning activities and learn how to change and shape the look of your Moodle course.
Course and Activity Design
This workshop concentrates on various design aspects in e-learning driven by pedagogic concerns and incorporating aesthetic and technical issues that are important to consider in the initial stages of setting up and planning quality e-learning. The workshop is also geared toward engaging with learning and technology as an online tutor/teacher in a learning environment, as well as encouraging engagement from your students. This workshop builds upon your existing skills and seeks to explore creative e-tutoring techniques.
Quiz Activities
The Quiz Module is a powerful tool that can be used creatively for both formative and summative testing. This workshop assumes a base knowledge of IT skills and (ideally) Moodle introductory skills and participants will learn quiz techniques whilst building their own quizzes from their own materials.
Lesson Activities
The Lesson Module is a powerful and exciting tool that can be used to build path based learning for students. The Lesson Module uses a system of branches and paths, taking students down a road map of learning where different routes are achieved based on the individual knowledge and skill base of the student. Lesson workshops assume that participants have a base knowledge of IT skills and (ideally) Moodle introductory skills as participants will learn techniques whilst creating their own lessons from their own materials.
Add-on Modules and Plug-ins
With a growing worldwide community of developers, Moodle has several additional modules and plug-ins which are not part of the core software. These can be found here . E-Learn Design can offer a wide range of workshops and demonstrations to staff, committees, groups and interested parties who may be curious about the pedagogical purposes (as well as technical implications) for incorporating these tools.
Engaging with Online Learning and Community Building
Learning with technological tools can be equally exciting and daunting for many learners and teachers. Additionally, simply providing the tools for engagement does not guarantee the kind of interaction you may have envisioned as a teacher. This workshop explores the process of establishing, transferring and sharing power within online learning environments that strive to be simultaneously and intellectually challenging for participants.
Encouraging and Engaging with Reflective Learning (activities and models)
Reflective learning plays an important part in the learner-centred experience, both in a face to face environment, a blended learning environment and a fully online environment. The design of reflective activities and the learning models behind reflective practice are explored in this workshop as teaching staff engage with ideas and creatively design reflective learning in Moodle.
Multimedia and Course Design
This workshop is for staff interested in exploring creative teaching methods, with specific reference to recording lectures in podcasting and/or audio and video format. This workshop also addresses multimedia and e-learning as tools for marketing courses and opening up communities of practice and inquiry. The day will include an open discussion about the various uses of multimedia and e-learning in course design and delivery, as well as demonstrations of the possibilities with Moodle.
Personal/Professional Development Planning (PDP)
Personal and Professional Development Planning (PDP) is now widely recognised as a valuable and (in some disciplines and businesses) essential component of effective learning and growth. Whilst there are many online PDP tools available, E-Learn Design recommends and offers workshops using Mahara , an open source tool funded by the New Zealand's Tertiary Education Commission. Contact us to discuss the particulars through a free consultation and discover how embedding reflective learning into your programme is benefitial.
Activity Specific Workshops
Moodle offers many activities for engagement and communication in an online environment that can not be covered in the Online Learning Introduction Workshop. These include, but are not limited to, Quiz, Lesson, Glossary, Database, Book, Wikis, and Workshop. Activity specific workshops are available for those who wish to take part in creating any of these or a combination of these.
Technical and Administrative
This workshop offers a technical approach to you and your staff with an eye toward administering or 'looking after' your own Moodle system. Particulars about this workshop are best discussed with us in consultation in order to ensure that the particular system administration topics you are most concerned with are covered on the day. However, typically the following would be covered in detail: User authentication and permissions, enrolment, roles, course and category management, security, customisation of themes and server preferences. This workshop has a minimum requirement of 3.
One size doesn't fit all
At E-Learn Design we recognise that educational institutions, companies and authorities operate uniquely. There is, therefore, no single solution to learning and technology when it comes to training workshops and online learning. We are happy to develop and deliver workshops that are tailored to your specific needs, addressing the areas that you identify as most significant either on your own or through consultation with us. If you are unsure, contact us for a free initial discussion on ways forward for you.
